2012, March 20th to 30th
From March 20th to 30, 2012 will be held the 7th Pesticide Action Week with more than 600 events in 19 countries. This ever-expanding programme links together thousands of grassroots events, highlighting the risks from pesticides, and promoting alternatives.
This event aims
- to raise awareness on the health and environment risks of synthetic pesticides
- to highlight alternative solutions
- to build a global grassroots movement for a pesticide-free world
It takes place during the first 10 days of spring, as this the main period for spraying pesticides (in Northern hemisphere).

600 events are included in the official program on this website : conferences, exhibitions, marches, workshops, farmers’ markets, film shows, theater shows and more. These events are organized by hundreds of ordinary people, associations, farmers, companies, teachers and local governments. Where? - The event will be held in 19 countries. Most of the events are organized in France, where the event was initiated in 2006 by the association Générations Futures and ACAP, an umbrella group of 170 associations. In Europe, there will be 100 events organized in Belgium, and some in UK, Spain, Germany, Slovenia and Switzerland. 9 African countries will also participate with the support of Pesticide Action Network Africa: Burkina-Faso, Mali, Senegal, Togo, Morocco, Congo, Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda. Further afield, Tajikistan, Mauritius Islands and Georgia will also participate |
A few examples of actions
- An major scientific congress on Pesticides and Health will take place at the Palais du Luxembourg in Paris: www.congrespesticides.org
- 16 symbolic marches with hundreds of participants will be organized in France and in Africa
- Belgium: 100 events with natural gardening workshops, conferences, professional trainings, etc.
- Burkina Faso: campaign of petitions, conferences with farmers, creation of an association working to reduce pesticides, symbolic marches in 3 different cities
- Tajikistan: Seminars, meetings and round tables in the territory of Vakhsh district of Khatlon oblast
This year is the 50th anniversary of the publication of “Silent Spring” by Rachel Carson. This book set in motion the modern environment movement.
